Leadership Development For Black Students

Seanna Leath, alumni of C'09, is featured as one of 10 students by the Center for Student Opportunity.

Seanna Leath from North Little Rock, AR (alumni of NLR-West C'09) and nine other students who beat the odds to become first in their family to attend college, recently teamed up with nonprofit Center for Student Opportunity (CSO) to launch the Opportunity Scholars blog Their mission: to share their remarkable college journeys and offer advice to other underserved students like them on how to make it to college. The 10 student bloggers all receive CSO's Opportunity Scholarship, a $1,000, four-year, renewable award.

"I feel the next step in advancing my life experience is my journey to college," wrote Seanna, who plans to expand upon her love of science and medicine at Pomona in an effort to improve her family's life as well as the condition of countless others. "While high school has set the foundation for my thirst in learning, college is the next phase: the sunrise on my horizon."

"Seanna is a true role model from whom we can all learn how to turn college dreams into reality," said Matt Rubinoff, CSO's Executive Director.
